Hey guys... the S20 FE battery drain issue had been completely resolved also leading to reduction in Heat issue. (Thanks to miki_patak on reddit to find this out)

The actual culprit is (*drumroll please*) Device Care app.

  • Just turn off Unused apps to sleep, and remove all the Sleeping and deep sleeping apps from the list.
  • Also turn off the Adaptive battery.
(For people who had newly bought the device or have factory resetted it kindly wait till the phone learns your battery usage pattern and also the Background Usage Limit segregrates the sleeping and deep sleeping apps for itself... it will take time.. but have patience... and once done, kindly follow the abovementioned procedures.)

Doing so the samsung background services Keeping the apps in sleep and deep sleep will not kick in because of which the Stock Android OS Scheduler will give a massive bump in battery and reduction in heat.

For me i was getting a 4 hour of SOT on my S20 FE exynos... doing so it bumped to 7-8 hrs... and i have been on 120Hz all the time with wifi, data, location etc on..

(Those wonder how it works then the Adaptive Battery from AOSP puts apps in according to usage patterns. There are defined mathematical algorithms that are used for this. Issue is OEMs (in this case Samsung) are allowed to modify those algorithms to be more aggressive. Samsung tuned something wrong and it's over aggressive which leads to some core Android services being blocked from triggering. OS scheduler than tries to do same thing over and over again and because it fails, it keeps itself in endless loop. It's waisting CPU cycles and battery. Since as you know the Android System has wakelocks. So those wakelocks are here because system tries something, Samsung algorithm blocks it, than system tries again and again depleting the battery causing drain and heat)

P.S. you can try this on any A, S, Note series device. Since for me its working wonders... also if you try kindly tellme about your device response in comments...

Have a Nice Day..

Works for
M21 (Exynos 9611)

Doesn't work for
S20 FE (Snapdragon Verison)
A52
S20+
Galaxy S
Seems likely. My phone started heating without any use when I followed steps mentioned in the post. Samsung device care works best for s20+ somehow

Was this post made for S10 Lite? I guess no.

I got an overnight drain of 3%. 12am-7am.
S20FE 4G but it was normal for me. Earlier also I had this much only. Will update for overheating and charging.

I too had observed that for me the random overheating had stopped .. the device still heats but not as drastic as it does previously.. but i was getting a drain of 14+%... but now its under 5% zone which is ok cuz there are tons of apps installed.

I tried it for 5g SD version. It rather went worse actually. So don't try for SD version.
Usually my overnight drain is 5 to 6% but after doing these steps the drain was 12%. So I enabled the adaptive battery back again. Sadly now it will have to learn all the apps again to put those in sleep or deep sleep mode 😌.
May be it's different for exynos version which I am not sure. but good luck to exynos users to try and enjoy your mobile if this trick works anyways.

I tried your above mentioned method.
Didn't find any difference on my A52 running snapdragon 720G. Before I got an sot of 10hrs on 90 hz with medium usage(from 100% to 15%). Then, using your method, I got an sot of 9hr 52 min with same set of apps being used. And, I didn't face any heating issues before or after.
But, I appreciate your findings, and I think exynos is still not very optimised, hence you might be facing these issues.

Yep... snapdragon drivers are better... i even had factory resetted my device to check it once again since i have exynos and it worked... however people having s20+ claimed that it worsened their battery which again means that its software specific issue... since s20FE and s20 have totally different software despite having same hardware..

Hmm understood. Yeah it depends upon device to device. It didn't as such work for me. But, funny story, I sent an ss of your post to a friend having M21 (exynos 9611). He earlier complained about battery draining, heating issues and asked me for a solution. Obviously then, I had told him to put apps to deep sleep and all that stuff; but it didn't work.
Then, after following your method, now overheating has drastically reduced on his device, sot has also improved a bit. And I'm like, "Bruh, really?!" 😂
So, yeah you get the idea.
I think the general rule of thumb is: If you have an exynos device & you're getting a standard sot with no heating or performance issues as such, no need to tweak device care, let it be as it is.
If not, then give your above-mentioned post a try.
Again, appreciate you for your findings.
