My phone is overheating. It restarted by itself twice; both, yesterday and today - in all instances the phone was getting charged and I was on/got a call. It's 30+ months old.. may be time to change the battery.
Or could there be another reason?

30 months old. So battery capacity definitely depreciated. Phones do tend to warm up when on call and charge simultaneously. Did your phone give some warning before restarting?

Note 9 was one of its kind. Try to keep it alive as long as possible.

If you are asking me, nope no warning, it would heat really hot and reboot. Even while using Smartswitch using USB I could not take backup as it used to reboot, so I used cloud service to get most of my data back intact and then copy from here and there.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
Mine is a Note 9. It is a very good phone. Mine is with 8 GB RAM. I hope that the battery replacement will suffice.

Try these steps it might help
Recovery mode
Turn off your device-
Press and hold power button and volume up button .
When android logo appears release thes keys . Then tap on wipe cache partition and then tap on reboot system now. If problem persist do the following steps to enter in recovery mode and then do hard reset and make sure to take backup of your device
And if still the problem isn't solved then you need to go to service center authorized one .
If this information helped you tap on 3 dots to accept my solution 😁

Thanks for sharing. I think I'll first try to get a battery replacement and if that doesn't work, then I'll bother to take chances with a hard reset.. the idea of reset sounds quite cumbersome per se 🙈
