Tech Talkyoutube app for smartphones was capped at 1440P before covid no matter what resolution of display
but 4k available on laptop since 2010 even if the display is 720p
and 4K will look sharper even on 1080p panel given viewer have no weak eyesight

Tech Talkstarting today, youtube video quality is not dependent on your device resolution.
for eg. earlier, if your phone has 720 display then max available quality on any video would be 720p only.
now you can select 2160p on a 720p device.
this was not available before, not even pre covid
