I have the same issue. It's because some of the Galaxy A series  phones don't have a physical proximity sensor. If you dial *#0*# or *#77692*# you can see "virtual proximity sensor" that doesn't work properly. Maybe they use the lux sensor and touchpad instead of the proximity sensor.

I went to several Samsung service centres to resolve my but there was no solution. As they said this is the design and there is nothing they can do about it. I think Samsung should discontinue or modify this product.

Hi there. Just bought a Galaxy A71 and faced the same issue. Had to check with a phone repair shop and turns out to be the screen protector which came with the phone. They removed the screen protector and replaced with a normal screen protector. Works fine since then. And they said it was one of a kind screen protector when I bought the phone from Samsung 🙄

I have the same issue on my S20 FE. I removed the factory screen protector, did several factory restores, cleared cache. Returned one phone, bought another. Still have the same problem. Lots of hang ups, launching stuff I didn't launch all during phone calls. Super annoying - great device, terrible phone

Hi.

Wipe cache partition.

To enter this menu, power off the phone and press power and volume up keys.

It works for me
