Tech TalkKeep your Samsung Account secure
Protect your account by requiring your password and another verification method to sign in.
Why you need two-step verification
It’s easier than you think for someone to steal your password. One bad app downloaded from the internet or one malicious link clicked, and someone could:
- Access your call history and text messages
- See any pictures you’ve synced with the cloud
- Get into any of your linked accounts
Two-step verification keeps people who want your data out of your account, even if they have your password.
How it works
1. You’ll enter your password to sign in
The first step stays the same. You just enter your account ID and password.
2. You’ll be asked to enter a verification code
We’ll then send you a secret code through a text message or ask you to get one from an authenticator app or your list of backup codes. When entering your code, you can choose to skip the verification code step on that device next time to make signing in easier.
How it protects you
Two-step verification adds another layer of security to your account. To sign in, you’ll need your password along with a verification code from your phone, authenticator app, or set of backup codes. Even if someone gets ahold of your password, they still won’t be able to sign in because they can’t get to your verification codes.
