Tech TalkSamsung’s software update policy is quite impressive, with the company constantly delivering the latest security patches to the Galaxy devices. Meanwhile, anything that has begun must eventually come to an end, and the same applies to software releases, whether they are major OS updates or regular security patches.
The company has kept all of its Galaxy devices in certain security update categories, including monthly, quarterly, and biannual, while major OS updates are delivered according to the software update policy on which the device has been launched and offers software updates or security patches accordingly.
The security update deadline has arrived for these Samsung devices; no more updates in the future
Therefore, here is the list of Samsung Galaxy devices whose software update policy has either ended or has received their last security update in 2025.
- Samsung Galaxy S20 5G/Galaxy S20 4G
- Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G/Galaxy S20+ 4G
- Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G/Galaxy S20 Ultra 4G
- Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (both 4G and 5G)
- Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G
- Samsung Galaxy A02s
- Samsung Galaxy A12
Since Samsung performed certain changes within its software update policy, beginning with the Galaxy S21 series, the company started offering four major OS updates and five security patches to its smartphones, leaving all the aforementioned devices as they are bound to the previous update policy that only offers three major OS updates and five years of security updates, and thus the security update deadline has arrived for these models.
It’s important to note that the Samsung Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra received the latest and probably the last software update in the form of the January 2025 security patch. Alongside these devices being kept in the 3 major OS and 4 years of security patches update policy, their major OS update has already ended, while the devices mentioned above are entirely out of Samsung’s latest (4+5) update policy, so 2024 was the last year for these units to get security patches.
