This post is about a configuration change in My Files app.

I'm not sure if this is an oversight, but showing files from hidden folders or folders with .nomedia files in the default libraries or recent files list is a bad idea.

Some of my WhatsApp friends send me files that are of a private nature. These files automatically go inside a folder called Private inside the WhatsApp media folder. 

Unfortunately, these files show up both inside the libraries as well as in the Recent files list of My Files app. This despite the setting to not show hidden files. That setting implicitly should also hide files inside hidden folders or folders with a .nomedia file in them.

Same holds true for other folders with a .nomedia file in them.

Kindly fix this.

I checked images, videos, documents...

When done private, it does not show in Recent files in My Files or in Gallery

documents were zip files and image documents (original .jpg image)

Try documents in pdf format. I have a few of them, which are essentially a few pictures put together in pdf format, and sent to me by a friend. These documents show up both in the documents library, as well as the recent files list if i open them from within the documents library.

But ig the Recent files is made to track your history... What you opened recently... So ig it's doing its job 🤔

True, but it shouldn't override privacy settings. Or atleast there should be an option to that effect.

Moreover, they shouldn't appear in the documents library too.

No... In my case, it did not appeared in documents library, i had to open from WhatsApp/media/Documents/Private folder

When I turn OFF "show hidden system files" in my phone, it doesn't not show hidden files in Recent file list of My Files app

Don't know which version of the My Files app you are using.

You won't see the hidden files when you browse normally. But when you go through the library route or the recent files list, they are showing up. Atleast on my device that has My Files app version 13.0.01.31.
