bluetooth earbud mic not working except in calls only

Did anyone find a solution regarding the major issue: the mic on a bluetooth headset/earbud not working at all except on calls. All third party apps (whatsapp, voice recording etc.) Are using the phone's built-in mic instead of the connected earbud's microphone.

I have tried all solutions, resetting earbud, deleting cache, data, vhanging bluetooth profile to 1.6 etc. Nothing works. Tried different earbud sets also same issue.

I am using S8+, android 9
