Check the App permissions and allow everything needed..
Especially.. Location, Physical Activity, Body sensor, Phone, Health Connect, Nearby Devices

This app needs atleast the "Physical Activity" permission to Count Steps. This is the minimum requirement.

• If you want something from an app, you have to provide the minimum requirement to it. That's how everything works.

• I use this feature all the time, the energy/battery consumption of this app is very less, I can also say that .. compared to some "useless" social media apps .. this app's battery consumption is Insignificant.

Other permissions (except physical activity).. make sure that data is as accurate as possible.
They also contribute in some very useful features the app provides.. like Connecting with Smart watch, Smart band, etc
