My phone is 1 year old. I think after its last update it is showing a strange behaviour. Its battery will behave normally from the range of 100% to 20% but after hitting 20% it will start dropping @ 1% per 3 sec. So within a minute phone will shut down. But above 20% it works fine with a good battery backup. Also, nowadays this 20% has gone to 30%.

Why is this happening? I think it can't be battery problem else it would show across the whole range of battery percentage.

TIA.

No. Because I don't want to lose my data. But I shall do it if no help comes from here. It us my last option. Also, right now I wnt to know if my guess that this is a software issue then there must be other people suffering from this.

It's same problem with my handset as well. As it hits 5 per cent, takes only minutes to die down. I am also searching for solution of this problem.

If a few more such problems come up then this is definitely a software issue.

This is a common problem, the recent update could have corrupted your battery info in the dalvik cache.
Resolution
1. You can reset the phone (Full factory reset)
2. Caliberate your battery -
charge the phone to 100% and drain it all the way down to 0% do not charge in between. once 0% turning on the device until the battery is drained to flat 0% and there no juice left.
charge the phone back to 100% without turning on the phone. Once fully charged, remove the charger and power on the device. charge the device for another 5 min and you are good to go.
