Galaxy MA. If you are using Windows, go to Device Manager. Find an unrecognised device (shouldn't be too hard to identify) right-click 'Update Driver'. Pick offline/local computer for the update. Select 'Pick a driver from the list of devices' and install 'MTP USB'.
Btw, I'm not on Windows so paraphrasing those options but it should not be too hard to find them.
^ I had this problem too often and this usually fixed it.
B. Check various USB ports. If you are using a hub, try to plug phone without the hub.
C. If it still does not work, change the cable

Galaxy MTake a tooth brush and clean the charger and the data cable. Looks like charger gets dirty. Prob solved.
