Lock screen error message showing defective product

Recently I have purchased two M21 phones from Amazon. Suddenly since  this evening one of my phones has shown following error message while locked on.

contact amazon, they will replace your mobile or help you out with the same

The question though, how did Amazon know that ot was ordered from Amazon? These devices come in lots to retailers and not made specifically for retailers.
