Galaxy MI also had an issue which the touchscreen becoming unresponsive. I bought the M20 beginning of August 2019 and had immediately updated to Android 9 (as suggested by the Samsung Smart Switch tool). The touchscreen would become unresponsive fairly often and would stay unresponsive for some time (ranging from 1-2 seconds but could last sometimes around 30 seconds). The phone still responded to input via the volume and power button. Turning the screen off via the power button and then unlocking the phone again always seemed to fix the current unresponsiveness, but it would keep happening. The problem occurred in various apps and I even had it in the Android settings and even in safe mode.
Samsung support chat had initially suggested to try a factory reset, but that did not help. Then I brought the phone to a Samsung service shop, where they replaced the touchscreen as a warranty repair. The problem seems to be fixed now.
I cannot say whether the Android 9 update is a factor in these problems, but apparently the touchscreen itself was the root cause.
In any case, I am quite happy with Samsung's handling of this individual case. However, if this problem is somehow caused by the Android 9 update in combination with some touchscreen hardware problem, it would be great to fix this problem in software (if possible) instead of having everybody to get a new touchscreen.
For anybody facing a similar issue, I would recommend to turn on the Developer options in the Settings (Settings -> Phone info -> Software info: touch a couple of times on Build number) and activate the "Show fingertips" option to be better able to differentiate the touchscreen from becoming unresponsive to a simple "off the mark" touch.

Galaxy MI'm having trouble with the screen, freezes for a few seconds. I bought it a week ago, and from what I'm reading, changing the screen could solve, does anyone have a suggestion?
