have my phone set so that I'm required to draw a pattern in order to unlock my screen, but this morning I noticed it's not working & only requires me to swipe to get into my phone. I've checked the settings, changed the pattern, restarted the phone, & it's still not working. Or it'll work the first time I try it after restarting the phone, but it only works once. What's going on & how do I fix it, so that my security pattern is required in order to get into my phone?

Ensure Google Smart Lock (especially on body detection, or trusted devices) is not enabled.
Additionally, ensure that you have not set any timeout for the lock screen.
