Samsung just announced that their Galaxy Watch will now have a feature called Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification, and it's been cleared by the FDA. This new feature, along with the existing Electrocardiogram (ECG) function, will help users keep track of any abnormal heart rhythms right from their wrist.

This is great news because it can help millions of people worldwide who may not even know they have a potential heart risk. Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death, and atrial fibrillation (AFib), which is a type of irregular heart rhythm, is a warning sign for major heart issues like stroke and heart failure. Sometimes, AFib doesn't show any symptoms, so people are unaware of their risk.

The Galaxy Watch already has tools like the Samsung BioActive Sensor, which allows users to record ECGs on-demand and alerts them to high or low heart rates. With the new Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification feature, users can monitor another important aspect of their health.

Once activated in the Samsung Health Monitor app, the feature will continuously check for irregular heart rhythms using the watch's BioActive Sensor. If it detects a certain number of consecutive irregularities, the Galaxy Watch will warn the user about potential AFib activity and prompt them to take an ECG for a more accurate measurement.

The Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification feature will be available on the upcoming Galaxy Watch devices with the One UI 5 Watch, and it will later expand to previous editions. It's a significant step towards proactive safety solutions and providing users with a better understanding of their cardiovascular and overall health.
