Sync vs. Backup
Have you ever got confused between syncing and backing up? They seem similar, but each serves a different purpose. Let us break it down:
Sync with Samsung Cloud
Image simulated for illustrative purposes only.
Purpose: Syncing ensures the same data is available across multiple devices in real time. Changes made on one device are automatically reflected on all other devices linked to the same account.
Functionality: Syncing typically involves continuously updating files or data between devices or a central server. It aims to maintain consistency and coherence across devices.
How it works:
Contacts – Your contacts are synced, meaning when you add or update a contact on one device, it automatically appears on all your other Samsung devices. No more manually transferring contacts or worrying about missing numbers.
Similarly, for Notes, Calendar, Samsung Internet, Health, Gallery, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth & Pass, etc.
What gets synced:
Samsung Cloud > Click on any item in dashboard (ex: Bluetooth) > 3 dots menu > More Information
Displays detailed information on what data Samsung Cloud syncs to cloud.

Backup with Samsung Cloud

Purpose: Backup involves making a copy of data from one location (source device) to another location (such as a cloud server). It serves as a safety net to recover data in case of device loss, damage, or failure.
Functionality: Backing up data typically involves periodic or scheduled transfers of data from one location to another. It aims to preserve data integrity and provide a point-in-time snapshot that can be restored if needed.
Here’s what you can backup:
Call Logs, Messages, Contacts, Calendar, Clock, Settings, Home Screen, Apps & Voice Recording etc.
Samsung Cloud > Back up data > 3 dots menu > More Information
Displays detailed information on what data Samsung Cloud backups to cloud.
Users can also check when Auto Backup works in background from above path.

Restore with Samsung Cloud
Purpose: Restore involves making a copy of data from cloud server to target device.
Functionality: Restoring data from a specific device which already backed up in cloud to source device
Here’s what you can restore:
Call Logs, Messages, Contacts, Calendars, Clock, Settings, Home Screen, Apps & Voice Recording etc.
