Hi Samsung Team and Community,
As a long-time Android user, I recently switched to a Samsung premium device. While the hardware is great, I am deeply disappointed to find that many essential, everyday basic features are completely missing or poorly implemented in One UI. It feels like basic usability has been compromised in the name of a "lightweight OS."
Here is the list of 10 basic features/issues that I highly struggle with every single day:
Missing 'Lift to Ear' Gesture: There is no default option to automatically answer a call by simply lifting the phone to the ear. This basic motion gesture has been completely removed in the recent One UI updates.
AOD (Always On Display) Custom Text: The ability to easily enter and display custom text/notes directly on the Always On Display screen is missing or overly complicated compared to other brands.
Difficult Screenshot Mechanism: Samsung lacks a simple "3-Finger Swipe Down" gesture for screenshots. Relying on button combinations or the awkward "Palm Swipe" is very frustrating and inefficient.
No Power-Off Protection When Screen is On: If the mobile screen is turned on (unlocked), the phone shuts down directly without asking for any password, fingerprint, or face lock. It should always require authentication to power off.
Incomplete Power Button Call Controls: There is no clean, default shortcut to make an incoming call silent with a single press of the power button and disconnect it with a double press.
No 'Charging Complete' Audio Alert: The phone does not provide a clear sound or notification alert by default when the battery reaches 100%. Users shouldn't have to manually set up complex "Routines" for such a basic alert.
Cannot Clear Notifications from Lockscreen: Users cannot simply swipe and clear incoming notifications directly from the lockscreen without fully unlocking the device.
Numeric Pad Not Enabled by Default on Keyboard: When the keypad opens up, the top row numeric pad is not enabled by default. Users have to dig into layout settings just to see numbers on top of the keyboard.
Missing Dedicated Driving Mode: There is no straightforward, dedicated "Driving Mode" available out of the box to manage calls and notifications safely while driving.
No Built-in Default App Lock: Unlike almost every other Android brand, Samsung premium phones lack a simple, native App Lock to protect individual apps (like Gallery or WhatsApp) with a PIN/Fingerprint without forcing users to migrate data into the complex 'Secure Folder'.
Conclusion:
Removing these essential features forces users to rely on third-party apps or advanced tools like 'Good Lock' just to fix basic functionality. Please bring these native features back to the main Settings menu in future One UI updates.
