All about Android Security Patches and Samsung Updates

So in this post I'll explain what are security patches in simple words and talk a bit about Samsung's android updates.

Android basically is a Linux based OS so, security patch level plays a prominent role when it got updated.

What it exactly patches would do is.

• Fix various bugs in previous kernels
• Prevent hackers from accessing your devices in various ways possible. (Just to make your device Hacker-proof for time being.)
• Every now and then developer or a hacker will find a hole then there is a necessity arises to create a patch or else hackers will play with your time & money in lay-man terms.
• Patches may also include improvements in performance

Security is often ignored. It's like helmets. You don't realize its importance till you have an accident. Android has many malwares lurking around the web. Security patch is what can keep your data safe.

I'll also comment about a controversial topic about Samsung's update plans

Why dont Android devices or say samsung devices do not recieve updates after 2 years like ios devices?

Because android is fragmented unlike ios. New version of android have changes in kernels, Commands etc which have to be implemented even at the chipset levels. ios have only a handful of devices to make changes unlike the samsungs which have a plethora of device portfolio like more than 100+. Plus their ecosystem is controlled according to the update requirements and compatibility. Unlike android which the oems follows google way of update. Which is locked at 2 years max. So google wont design a future os keeping in mind the 2 year old devices. So virtually it is also not possible by other oems to implement in their devices. Exceptions is that they think out of the box and somehow implement it like the op 3t which had 4 updates!!!

Why does updates take long to be released in my particular country?

Each country have some specific "country focused updates" with some diffrent settings or optimization. An example would be for india double clicking on power button is to dial 112 (As directed by government for security purpose) whereas in other country you could launch camera with that function. Second reason but very highly unlikely is the marketing and ensure that new features should not cannibalize the new launch so they release it late
