Galaxy SNobody cares (legally speaking) about any vehicle part, including the engine. The only reason to look for the Vin on the engine is to find out if the engine is oem or not, ie when purchasing used car. The police will check an engine for a vin if they suspect a car has been stolen & chopped up, and the engine they are inspecting is suspected to be from the stolen car. The act of changing an engine is never in anyway illegal (if you're not a chop shop), you don't have to supply any documentation. You may have to disclose car & actual (engine) miles driven on the title, when you sell your car. It may be, depending on the state, illegal if you do not disclose that information.

Galaxy SIt is not illegal to engine swap any vehicle. If you swap engines vin #s won't match but (not illegal), if you buy a crate engine it will just have the engine I'd #s on it.
Anyway, if you buy a used vs new main board how does the imei relate to that? In other words, is the imei attached to the board?

Galaxy SThats same with your motherboard.
As far as legality is concerned, its illegal to change IMEI without authorization, but 1st of all they didn't change your IMEI secondly they have authorization to do so too.
