What is this guys.. after updating on my friends phone.. WhatsApp status bar turned into this.. status not showing..! What to do?

As per your query, we want to inform you that this is a new feature introduced by WhatsApp for users. As per this update, users will be able to see the status and can follow and subscribe to different channels by going to the Updates Tab. To check the status of your contacts, follow the steps.

Open WhatsApp >> Tap on Updates >> Tap on View Updates.
