I’ve seen a lot of people asking if it’s worth upgrading from their current phone to the new S25 Ultra after the Unpacked 2025 event, so here’s my take on whether you should upgrade or not.

Design & Display

The S25 Ultra has a premium design, but if you're coming from an S23 or S24 Ultra, the changes aren’t huge. The display is still amazing, so unless you're really drawn to the new design or color options, it probably isn’t a reason to upgrade.

Performance

The S25 Ultra offers a performance boost, but if your S23 or S24 Ultra is still running smoothly, you might not feel a huge difference in day-to-day use. Yes, there’s an improvement, but it’s not massive.

Camera

Samsung always makes strides with camera improvements, and the S25 Ultra brings some great upgrades, especially for photography and tech enthusiasts. I really like the camera enhancements, but my only gripe is the drop in the selfie camera resolution — from the 40MP on the S22 Ultra to just 12MP on the S25 Ultra.

Software

The S25 Ultra comes with One UI 7.0 and Android 15, but your S22, S23, or S24 Ultra will still get updates for a few more years. Unless you're really itching for the latest features, you’re not missing much in terms of software right now.

Battery & Charging

There may be small improvements in battery life with the S25 Ultra, but if your phone’s battery is still holding up well, there’s no urgent need to upgrade for this alone.

Price & Deals

The S25 Ultra comes with a premium price, but trade-in deals can help lower the cost if you're leaning toward upgrading.

The Bottom Line

  • S22 Ultra users: After three years, upgrading to the S25 Ultra makes sense if you want better performance or camera improvements. But it’s not urgent.
  • S23 Ultra users: Your phone is still in great shape. The S25 Ultra has small upgrades, so consider upgrading if you’re craving the latest tech.
  • S24 Ultra users: The S24 Ultra is still fresh. Unless you need the newest features, you can probably hold off on upgrading.

In the end, if your current phone is still working well for you, upgrading might not be necessary. But if you’re ready for the latest features and improvements, the S25 Ultra does offer some nice updates.

Personally, I am planning to upgrade from S22 Ultra to the S25 Ultra

I personally think you shouldn't upgrade from S22, maybe lower it makes sense. Try holding on for another year.

That's interesting! I’d love to hear what led you to that conclusion.

Because there is nothing really drastically new! It's more of an iterative update. Unless you are facing a lot of problems with your S22U, I don't think it's necessary

I see your point! The upgrades do seem more incremental than groundbreaking.

Based on my observations, the odd-numbered series, such as S25, S27, and S29, consistently exhibit superior performance. This is a personal assessment.
