Galaxy S
When the 'adaptive power saving' mode is enabled, the phone drains more battery on standby than when the same setting is disabled. It drains as much as 8-10% overnight compared to 2-3% when the setting is disabled. Also selecting 'medium power saving' mode itself replicates the same issue. The phone on medium power saving mode should consume much less battery on standby.

I agree. this is a bug. try booting in safe mode. its maybe a rogue app that's draining the battery in background

did that, no change, same issue only that battery dropped slightly less about 7%, but no solution. And Sammy's support responds with a canned answer of reboot and update software

that's for sure. canned responses are the things in vogue! :)
well the only next best options are use the samsung diagnostic tool - available on the scrolling banner under samsung members and sew if battery shows up as a concern area. a health check report will determine that. I have stopped using that option along with restricted data usage on useless apps. other options include toning down the screen quality fqhd to hd and disable live screensavers and animations if any.
one thins I can point is AOD as a culprit. if u have tried these options already then sorry about this long post. but do comment back! let me see if I can be of any help

Battery doesn't show up as a concern area. I don't use AOD at all, have disabled it. It's a bug pretty sure. Hope someone replicates the issue and informs Samsung.

true. are you able to generate logs as well? I'm pretty sure if u keep reporting this issue regularly then it may end up being a bespoke issue and may lead to a motherboard or a display replacement as a quick fix.
