Is this just me or are Whatsapp brief notifications on home screen in OneUi 8, not expandable? they are missing the small down arrow - it's there on every other app, but not whatsapp. The small arrow allows for expanding the notification like in the third pic (which is for plus messenger)

I have tried everything - uninstalling and reinstalling whatsapp, restarting the phone etc. Any ideas please?

It is understood that you are experiencing an issue where WhatsApp brief notifications on your One UI 8 home screen are not expandable, as the small down arrow is missing. This can be frustrating, and a solution is being provided to address this concern.

Based on similar reports, this may be a known compatibility issue between the WhatsApp application and the One UI 8 software update. While you have already tried some key troubleshooting steps, please follow the steps below to ensure your notification settings are configured correctly on your Samsung Galaxy device.

Troubleshooting Steps

Check Notification Pop-up Style:

Navigate to Settings > Notifications on your device.

Select App notifications and then tap on WhatsApp.

Go to Notification pop-up style.

Ensure that the style is set to Brief pop-up or Detailed pop-up, not just "Brief".

Verify In-App Notification Settings:

Open WhatsApp and go to Settings > Notifications.

Look for an option to Reset notification settings and select it to reset all settings to their default values.

Check for Software Updates:

Ensure that both your device's software and the WhatsApp app are fully up to date. Check for phone updates in Settings > Software update, and check for app updates in the Google Play Store.

Clear Cache and Restart:

Clearing the cache for the WhatsApp app can sometimes resolve minor glitches. You can do this by going to Settings > Apps > WhatsApp > Storage and selecting Clear cache.

After clearing the cache, restart your phone to apply the changes.

If you have tried all the above steps and the issue persists, it may be a bug that requires an update from either WhatsApp or Samsung. It is recommended to report this issue through the Samsung Members app, as this allows the development team to investigate and work on a resolution for a future software update.
