It's not just Samsung but all brands guarantee only 2 software upgrades for their mid and high end phones. The other issue I found with these phones is that they tend to slow down after about 1.5 years and by the end of 2 years the battery backup will also become pathetic. Even Apple does the same to their high end iPhones.

So that's a personal choice you've to make going for high end phones. I personally moved away from the S and Note series for the same reason. And the mid range phones like the A and M series have a lot of features and their cameras are also excellent. So why spend on expensive models?

there is no hands of Samsung regarding android os update..it's totally depends on Google as android comes from Google not by Samsung...Google clearly stated that they will not give more than 2 major updates in any Samsung devices then how Samsung will give that?

It all depends on the licensing deal each manufacturer makes with Google Android. One Plus and Google Pixel hardly have 3 models in each of their series and release around 1 or 2 phones per year.So maybe they are able to provide 3 updates. Whereas Samsung has so many series and each series has multiple models. And it also releases multiple phones every year. So providing updates to so many models is also herculean task and Samsung is able to keep it up for all models.

Google is partly to blame. They own Android. So what they decide phone manufacturers have to abide. Also since Android platform has many phone makers, Google cannot make OS to the liking of the manufacturers so since new phones keep coming out and old are phased out, this becomes a hindrance for Google.

also few phones are selected by Google so they receive faster updates
