I don't think there is an official way to upgrade the software.
However there are plenty of other ways like changing the devices software like here in this case shifting away from samsung and use other provider's android experience.
This is usually not recommended as your device's warranty gets void and you won't be getting the official security updates.
But, you have the choice to pick whichever open source Android experience available.
