In my Samsung Galaxy M53, after the recent updates hdr playback in YouTube has been dropped. Earlier atleast hdr support was there in YouTube. Also it showed supported in the drm info app. Now it doesn't.

Secondly, again after the recent updates when a 60fps video is played in 2x speed then it starts lagging & stuttering. Means it is unable to play 120fps videos whereas it should as it has a 120hz display.

Both of these issues are after the oneui 5 update. Anyone else facing the same issue or is it just me ?

HDR playback was never supported in YouTube in M53 5G. The display does not have an HDR certification. YouTube only showed "HDR", there was no difference in quality. Look at what I wrote in my review back in May 2022.Screenshot_20230405-173801_Samsung Members_1000004916_1680696481.jpg

Actually when YouTube showed "HDR" that time hdr was supported. I also checked in the drm info app. There is showed HDR. But it didnt play in hdr because of a bug. Colours would all be washed out. I actually got around to fixing it temporarily by turning on "turn off hw overlays" option in the developer settings. I could tell the difference as when rotating the device from landscape to potrait the dynamic range shift was obvious. Though this developer setting turned off automatically after every restart.

I got my device in Sep 2022. And after some updates in November the HDR functionality was completely removed. Now it doesn't even show HDR written in YouTube.

HW overlays is a completely different thing. You were not seeing HDR differences, you were seeing a different rendering of the video, not HDR. I got the device back in May 2022, the display never had a HDR certification.

So that washing of colour was another bug you mean ? So I was just seeing normal amoled colours when I was enabling that option ? Ok got it. So why did YouTube show Hdr & also drm info app showed hdr. I don't have screenshot else would have attached.

I don't know what exactly is up with your device, but I have never had any washed out colours in my unit. I saw the same HDR in YouTube, but it was just a false positive. I never saw that in Netflix or Amazon Prime, for the record.

Yes washed out colours in hdr videos was an issue. It has been fixed now. So I thought maybe hdr is buggy so that's why they removed it completely. Now getting to know from you that it was a false positive all along. Thanks.

Also wanted to know if 60fps videos played in 2x speed in YouTube have any frame drops or stuttering in your device. Mine lags like hell.
