Galaxy JOctober 18, 2017 - Written By Mark Real
Samsung is now rolling out an update that will install the October 2017Android security patch to the unlocked variants of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge in Europe, starting with the Netherlands. The October security patch resolves a number of critical issues in the media framework of the mobile operating system and a remote code execution vulnerability which was categorized as a severe one. The September 2017 security fix was not deployed to the handsets, although the South Korean smartphone manufacturer rolled out a separate software upgrade that addressed the BlueBorne vulnerability on its 2016 flagships. Aside from the security update, this software upgrade also brings a number of bug fixes and system improvements to the devices.
The file size of the installation package is 122MB and it is currently being distributed over the air. Users may either choose to wait for the update to arrive to their handsets in the form of a notification or proceed to the “Software Update” menu found in the system Settings app and manually start the upgrade process if the download is already available in their territory. It is advisable that users backup the contents of their device to a personal computer or a microSD card and fully charge their smartphones before installing the software package. Once the upgrade is installed, the new software build can be identified by the version number G930FXXU1DQJ1 for the Galaxy S7 and G935FXXU1DQJ1 for the Galaxy S7 Edge.
