My Samsung A42 5G fingerprint sensor is active while in pocket. As a result, I have multiple incorrect attempts to unlock the phone and have to key in the password to unlock the phone. Anyone else has this same problem?

This is a brand new device (just bought yesterday).  I updated to the latest firmware, factory reset 2 times, tried in safe mode.

Prevent accidental touch is enabled.

Virtual Proximity Sensing is working in *#0*# (but I have to TOUCH the earpiece). Why is this hardware test called "virtual"? Screen turn off fine when I bring the phone to my ear while in a call.

This is my first Samsung mid range phone. Is this because of a subpar proximity sensor being used or a software problem?

Goto Settings 》 Display 》 Accidental Touch Protection and turn it on.

If that helped or solved your query "Accept as solution" will be appreciated.

I used to have the Note 10+ too. No problems with fingerprint sensor activating while in pocket. This is the 1st Samsung mid-range smartphone I purchased after all the Samsung flagship smartphones.

I'm using the galaxy A50s and it too has the same problem even Accidental Touch Protection is turned on. Any way to fix it?

Well apparently not. It is a software issue. After some research, the phone doesn't have a real proximity sensor, only a virtual one using AI. Solution is to put the phone with screen side facing out in pocket, or get other brands of mid range smartphone (which does use REAL proximity sensor).

I read that S20FE also does not have a real proximity sensor.

Oh! During a call the screen turns ON automatically  and it doesn't goes OFF, and if the screen turns OFF during the call it doesn't turns ON automatically after the call has ended and then i need to  turn ON the screen manually. Maybe the virtual proximity sensor is not calibrated well.

It is not a calibration problem, as there is nothing to calibrate lol. They need to do some work on the AI aspect.
