Yes, it does. But it also depends on the CPU inside your phone. Most phones nowadays should comfortably play hevc.

And not just play, the higher-end Samsung phones also record in HEVC.

Yaa my phone supports hevc. But I think the video player is not enable for hevc format.

Use MX player , plays everything and picture quality is way better because of hw+ in the player

Bro if samsung doesn't support HEVC / HEVC profile 10 codecs natively. All 3rd party apps like vlc, mx player, bs player, km player, etc...! All play hevc codecs in sw decoding mode that means they all plays hevc but not as hw decoding, they plays as sw decoding which eats more battery than hw mode. So samsung should support hevc codecs as natively like hw decoding which consume less battery.
