It works for mobile data as well as wifi it depends on the background usage more so to make it effective put the background apps inactive if not on use.

Is there any way to make data saver only work on mobile data? I want to use wifi without it but I want to use mobile data with data saver. And I can't turn on and off data saver from control center either.

Just put the data saver off if you don't have any background apps active. No need to put it on or off. It will make it OR set background usage limit set

Data saver is primarily useful for mobile data. WiFi it does not really matter 😊

Dear Samsung Member,

Greetings from Samsung Customer Support!

As per your query, we want to inform you about the Data Saver feature, designed to help you manage and reduce your mobile data usage effectively. With this feature, background data usage for apps will be limited, ensuring that apps only use data when you are actively navigating them.

This functionality not only helps you save on data consumption but also extends your battery life, making it a win-win for your mobile experience.

To turn Data saver on or off:

1. Go to Settings, then tap Connections.

2. Tap Data usage, then tap Data saver, and then tap the switch next to "Turn on now".

3. If you want certain apps to still run in the background, you can add them as exceptions. Tap Allowed to use data while Data saver is on at the bottom of the screen.

4. Tap More options (the three vertical dots) and select Show system apps or Show allowed apps first to make the list easier to manage.

5. Finally, tap the switch(es) next to the app(s) you want to allow.

For any questions or for assistance in activating this feature, please do not hesitate to reach out!

Warm Regards,
Samsung Customer Support
