While some species like Solanum nigrum are consumed in various cultures after being fully ripened and cooked, the entire plant contains solanine, a toxic compound. Unripe, green berries are generally considered toxic.
The plant produces bright yellow flowers (not pictured) that eventually fall off, leaving behind small, glossy black fruits attached to bright red sepals.
Despite its name, the bharal is neither a true sheep nor a true goat; it is a caprid, specifically a goat-antelope, that inhabits the high-altitude regions of the Himalayas.
