Eventhough i do also experienced the same issue and got to replace it recently in service center. (Posted regarding this you may check) Still i have updated with 8.5 today.

Sadly you can't get smother experiences as iphones in any android device. But you can check update of your keyboard, also keep it lite as much possible, do not use highly customisation.
