New oneui 2.5 update is not showing in smart switch. It shows your device is upto date THB.But update is showing on note 9. How can I download the update via smart switch

why it is must to take backup while upgrading via smart switch? is there any chances for losing data. I already updated via smart switch without taking backup so I am asking
