just swipe diagonally

You can also set it on lockscreen
Settings > LockScreen > Short cut

yes I understand but then have to download a torch app from playstore as the inbuilt torch does not come up as a app

I am not using any 3rd party apps for torch! It is built-in. Have you checked?
