Download F-Droid apk and use manual install on your phone after allowing permissions to do so.

Then in F Droid search app named New Pipe ( youtube interface front-end )

It will allow you to play videos and all content in minimized mode or locked screen as well.

TL;DR - no need to pay for youtube premium.

It's legal and Open Source.

It also plays SoundCloud but I have not tried that yet.

Just checked yes it allows you that option at the same place with same symbol as youtube same down arrow symbol blow the post. It asks for permission to access files to save if you allow it does so.
