Actually S9 , S9+ had great design. No notch, no holes in display.
I like Sony Design as they provide notchless , holeless display with proper front firing stereo speakers.
Even I don't like in display fingerprint sensors.
As @Sidhabhi said , its all marketing , maximising profits.
Remove 3.5mm jack , people will buys TWS
Remove HR sensor, people will buy bands , watches
Glass build , people will buy cases
So on.

What is this strategy really.. Paying 1lakh for quad camera? Exynos processor? Upto 10 series they are flagships but not now.. 😂😂
So, now we can go for apple atleast they don't ruin devices with updates..
