I am a person with visual impairment (blind) and a regular user of Samsung’s assistive apps such as Samsung TalkBack, Bixby Vision and Samsung TTS. I attended the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9, 2025. While the event showcased exciting new technologies, I was disappointed that it did not include any mention of what’s new for more than 16% (130 crore) Persons with Disabilities.
Samsung TalkBack, unlike Google TalkBack, does not receive regular updates or new features. This reflects a long-standing gap—Samsung has largely ignored innovation and development in its assistive apps for nearly 5 years. In contrast, general apps like Samsung Health, Samsung Wallet, and Samsung Notes receive consistent improvements and new features.
Samsung must prioritize accessibility by regularly updating assistive apps and integrating accessibility into future product announcements. Inclusion should be part of innovation, not an afterthought.
