Let us dig into the  My files app that digout everything present in your Galaxy Phone


The My Files folder is preinstalled on most Samsung Galaxy devices.

 Where you can find it ?
You are able to locate this folder on your device, by searching for this in the app search, or this can be found in the default folder named Samsung.

Type of app
My Files is a type of file manger actually allows you to access a device's entire file system — even from the device itself.


Need of this app 
Your Samsung Galaxy phone is productivity powerhouse

It can take everything from PDFs and PSDs to presentations and podcasts. It can  act as a portable hard drive and can keey any sort of important files you might need in your pocket. Your mobile device can carry  a lot of data, and there may come a time when you want to dig in and deal directly with it and My Files exactly do that digging  for you.

Now lets move inside this app to get introduced to many options available for us:
When we open My files app first page appears like this

Search bar:
The app provides a universal search bar at the top that helps you to search any file you want to search in your entire device

 Recent files:
This option display your all recent files that you have opened or viewed recently or you have saved recently. It can store upto a large number of files.

Note :  You can even disable this function if you think that it violates your privacy or  you donot want to show what  you have viewd or saved recently

Way to disable recent files
 Click on three dots on right corner , then select  Custome My Files home   and then disable  Recent files option .

Categories:
Files stored in the device are organized into many categories to make our work  more easy so that we can directly open that category that we need excluding all other type of files. Following categories are present.

Images:        
   View image file 

Audio:          
   View audio files. 

Videos:            
  View video files. 

Documents
  View document files. 

Downloads
   View all apps and files that have                                   been downloaded to the device

Installation files: 
  View all installation files that you have  installed.       through apk or that apk files that you have.       ..       downloaded.

My Files  app  provides option even to disable  Categories option

Way to disable  Categories Option :
Click on three dots option in the right corner of the app . then select  Custome My Files home   and then disable Categories option.

Storage option:
After categories option you will see different storage options available in your device

  Internal storage: 
   View folders and files located on the device. 

 SD card:
   View folders and files located on the  SD card .
   Note: This option only appears if an optional.           SD card is installed. 

 USB Storage : 
 You can see this option only when you have connected external storage device through USB.
   
Cloud storage
   You can view different cloud storages availabe         that you have signed in.
   Different cloud services options available are           Samsung cloud drive , Google Drive , OneDrive.

You can easily copy and move files, folders from one storage location to other.

Shortcuts Section 
My Files  app allowes you to create shorts of the files or folder that you can quickly and easily access the files and folders you want. This app gives you two options 
    a. To add shortcut on home screen
    b. To add shortcut on My Files home screen.

 Here this shortcut section  contains all the  shortcuts you have created of files or folders. 
  
Method to add shortcut:
1. Long press on  file or folder of which you.               want to create shortcut.
2. The file or folder will get selected . Now click on.       three dot option that you see in the right corner.       of the screen.
3.  Click on create short cut. Popup showing 'add          short cut 'to will appear .You will see two.                  options :           1.Home screen
                                 2.My files app
 4. Select which one you want. If you select Home          Screen , shortcut will created on your phone's            home screen . If you selected the My files app ,        shortcut will be created on My Files app that             you will see in shortcut section .

Now let us create shortcut of whatsapp folder on 
My files app :

Manage shortcuts option:
You can even manage the shortscuts that you have created on your My Files app.

How to manage shortcuts? 
  • Press any shortcut for long , a screen will open containing all  the shortcuts or Click on three dot menu button present on the right corner and then select Manage Shortcuts.
  • You can change the order of the shortcuts or delete one or many at a time.



 Analyse Storage:
Next option is Analysis Storage

This option  reveals the files and directories that take up most of the space on your  device.

If your Android device runs out of storage space regularly, you may have an idea why that is happening.

When you click on Storage Analysis you will get a lot of options as shown here:

This helps you to view your internal storage , sd card storage and even the cloud storage. You will get varius option to manage your storage


Duplicate files 
  

Accurate identification of duplicates

Duplicate Files  identifies all duplicate file formats accurately. You can find identical texts, photos, audio, and video files with this extremely user-friendly software.

Large files 
                 This option helps you to find large files                       that are stored on your phone and that                       takes a lot of space. 
                 This option also allows you to backup                         your large file on any other external                              storage .

Unused files
                Unused files  helps you to find the files 
                  that once you stored on your phone but                      never or rarely used them. This will help                      you to save space and delete that                                 unwanted files.



Recyclebin:
Other one of the best option available in this app is Recyclebin.It helps you to recover accidentally deleted data quickly, completely eliminating the need to constantly backup your data. It works just like recycle bin on your windows, mac, linux desktop.
Data that you delete get stored in Recyclebin so that if you want that data in future you can restore that back. Deleted data remains for a fixed time in the Recyclebin.  After that data is deleted permanently. 
You can even manually delete data from Recyclebin. 

How to enable/disable Recyclebin? 
  •  Click on three dot menu option in right corner of the app.
  • Click on Setting option
  • Toggle on or off option of Recycle bin.
Note : When you disable Recycle option , you will lost all your data that is present in Recyclebin.

How to acess Recyclebin ?
  •  From any screen of the app , just click on three dot  menu option on  the right corner of the app. 
  • Select Recylebin
  • Recyclebin will open showing the files that you have deleted.
  • You will have two options for every file , one is to restore that file other  is to permanently delete it.

Hidden  System Files
This option helps you to see the files that are by default made hidden by the developer of the apps .
For example , Status folder inside Whatsapp folder is made hidden by default by the developers . But Hidden files  helps you to unhide such files and folders .
 
Way to unhide hidden system files?
  •  Just click on the three dot  menu option in right corner of the app .
  • Select Setting option.
  • Enable Show Hidden System Files.

  • Move
  • Copy
  • Paste
  • Rename
  • Create folder
  • Sort by

                  c) date

On my Note 20 Android 10 Recycle bin name changed to Trash. Trash is in the same location as was the recycle bin.

I own a samsung m31. I am unable to find the recycle bin in the file manager, as you have stated. is there a way to enable this menu item, for when I delete it says it will move the item to recycle bin. I am sure there is some way, can anyone help?

if it is there in your phone , in the right corner click on Three dot option. Go in settings and turn on Recyclebin
