RAM (Random Access Memory) is storage used for a place to hold data. Think of it as a big filing cabinet that keeps things ready for the CPU in your phone to present it to your eyes and ears. It's infinitely (almost) re-writable, very fast, and used differently by different operating systems.

The bigger the RAM, the more software the phone runs smoothly; While the bigger the ROM, the more data it can store. Usually, a phone with big RAM is not easy to get stuck. So far, the RAM of the smartphones generally reaches above 2G, the major phones are equipped with 3GB / 4GB, even 6GB, and 8GB this year.

RAM (Random Access Memory) is the memory where the software resides while it is running along with the data it is using. RAM is used by both OS and application software.

RAM is very fast but volatile, meaning that all information is lost when electric power is cut off, allowing data to be read or written irrespective of the physical location of data inside the memory. Devices with more RAM can run more complex software and multiple applications at the same time.
