Tech TalkFollowing the launch of Apple’s 5nm process-based A14 Bionic chipset in October 2020, Samsung introduced its two 5nm chips calls Exynos 1080 and Exynos 2100 in November and January respectively. Followed by Qualcomm that had launched Snapdragon 888 in December last year, which is also fabricated on 5nm process tech.
On the other hand, MediaTek still has its flagship SoC based on a 6nm process, but it looks like the Taiwanese chip maker could soon defeat rival chip manufacturers with its first 4nm chip, reports GSMArena. The report further suggests that two independent sources confirmed that MediaTek will be the first chipmaker to release a 4nm based chipset for mobile devices.
Besides, it was said that TSMC will produce 4nm MediaTek processors at a starting price of about $80, while the current high-performance 5nm SoCs are around $30-35. Therefore, a popular Chinese analyst claimed that the upcoming MediaTek processor will be able to challenge the Exynos and Snapdragon’s flagship chips with significantly reduce power consumption.
Over the years, the Taiwanese chipset manufacturer has made great progress. With the help of Samsung Electronics, it has also become the world’s largest chip manufacturer in the field of smartphones. MediaTek may approach Samsung LSI’s plan to expand its market share through Chinese smartphone OEMs that provide Exynos chipsets, just like Exynos 1080.
