Galaxy Techfluencer topic for the week: Carrier Aggregation

Carrier Aggregation (CA) is the ability to combine multiple carriers to expand the spectrum bandwidth. CA is a new feature of LTE Advanced which helps the users with increased data speeds (both in uplink and downlink).

Carrier aggregation is a technique used in wireless communication to increase the data rate per user, whereby multiple frequency blocks (called component carriers) are assigned to the same user. The maximum possible data rate per user is increased the more frequency blocks are assigned to a user. The sum data rate of a cell is increased as well because of a better resource utilization. In addition load balancing is possible with carrier aggregation. Channel selection schemes for CA systems taking into account the optimal values for the training length and power, the number of the probed sub-channels and the feedback threshold such that the sum rate is also important for optimal achievable capacity.

#GalaxyTechfluencer The idea of Carrier Aggregation is to increase the uplink & downlink speed of any mobile network carrier well... I am curious what will happen if we use the data speed of two sim cards simultaneously on a particular device on the same time, the sim cards may be from two different network carrier companies in a dual sim smartphone. As we all know for now we have to switch to a particular network carrier for the data in dual sim devices I think this will fulfill the uplink and downlink speed demand by the consumers. Let go 5g

Carrier Aggregation (CA) is a feature of LTE-Advanced that allows mobile operators to combine two or more LTE carriers into single data channel to increase the capacity of the network and the data rates by exploiting fragmented spectrum allocations.

This technology can be applied to either the FDD or TDD variants of LTE with a maximum of five component carriers, each with a bandwidth of up to 20 MHz, resulting in a total transmission bandwidth of up to 100 MHz.

Types of Carrier Aggregation (CA)

Intra-band Carrier Aggregation: This form of carrier aggregation uses a single band. It is further divided up in to two parts:

1)Contiguous: This is the easiest form of LTE carrier aggregation to implement. In this the carriers are adjacent to each other. In this case you only need a single transceiver as the signal is considered as a single enlarged signal.
2)Non-contiguous: This one is slightly complicated as the carriers use the same operating band but are not adjacent to each other. So you need two transceivers, because the signal can’t be treated as a single signal, adding to complexity and cost.
3)Inter-band non-contiguous: This form of carrier aggregation uses different bands. This is more challenging as the carriers are from different operating bands. So you need multiple transceivers to transmit/receive signals using this type of CA, adding to cost, complexity and creating space constraints.
