Galaxy Techfluencer topic for the week: Random Access Memory
RAM is an essential component that is used for the Read, Write/Modify or Execute operation. It could be an image, text file or any application. All of these are loaded to RAM before performing any operation. With RAM, operations can be done at a better speed resulting in better user experience.

Tech Talk2)The HDD and internal storage (and other types of storage like floppy disk , CD, DVD etc.) are called as secondary storage.
3) Once data like software or audio ,video is stored on the secondary storage it stays there permanently ,
even while power supply is turned off or battery loses power, until the data is deleted or the HDD or internal storage stop working completely. Therefore the Secondary storage is called non volatile memory.
4) RAM ( full form Random Access Memory ) is one of the type of memory used in smartphones and computers and it is called as primary storage. Once data is stored on the RAM it is only available till the electric power is supplied to the RAM.
5)Once the power supply is cut off to the RAM then the data stored on it is lost (automatically) that is why RAM is called volatile memory.
6) On the internal storage of the smartphones and on the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) of computers the operating system software and apps are stored, the hdd and internal storage are classified as secondary storage . Once data such as anything like apps , operating system , videos , images etc. , is stored on the secondary storage it stays on it .As long as the HDD or internal storage is not corrupted the data stored on it stays intact, even though the power supply may be off .
7)There is an attribute of every kind of memory called read/write speed , read/write speed is the rate at which the data (software programs , videos , text files, images ) is copied to (write) and opened or executed or tranferred (read).
8)The RAM is much faster (it has quicker read write speeds) than the secondary storage like HDD and internal storage. 9)The processor of smartphones and computers is the part of the device on which the processing (execution) takes place , basically it is the brain of the device. The processor is very fast at the task of executing programs but secondary storage is very slow in providing the programs to the processor for execution because of low read/write speeds, hence the RAM is used because it has high read/write speeds , it is the memory to which the programs are transferred to before being transferred to the processor for execution (processing).
10)The RAM is more costly than secondary storage due to production cost, The HDD and other secondary memory are cheaper to produce.
11)The RAM is in constant use while the Computer or smartphone is powered on. The data to be executed is transferred from the secondary storage to the RAM and then it goes to the processors own cache memory for processing by the processor that means RAM is very important.
12)It can be assumed that the more amount of RAM is available on a system or device the faster the system or device will be. But much depends on the skill of the programmer and the language in which the program is written. That is why even though the amount of RAM on a device is high it may still not be very fast. The software should be optimised. That is why people try to install as much RAM as they can on a computer, as of now the amount of RAM used on a smartphone cannot be changed as it comes factory installed.
13) The RAM used on smartphones is called LPDDR (Low Profile Double Data Rate)
Low Profile means size is small and power usage is low
14)Presently LPDDR4 type of RAM is used on latest smartphones (as of year 2020)
15)If you want to run lots of apps at the same time on your phone, and if you want to play graphic intensive games then you should use phones having fast processor and high amount of RAM, as it is seen that phones with the fast processor and high amount of RAM are faster.

Tech TalkThe function of RAM in any device, be it Android, Ios, Windows, Linux, etc is the same. It has very fast data transfer speed varying from 2Gbps to more than 30Gbps its depending on DDR of the RAM. This are the houses where apps and other background processors do their jobs. These also save the processed data from the processor and send them into the graphics unit to display the results. Once it is displayed, it is either instantly deleted or kept on standby depending on the type of activity.
The myth is that "Greater the RAM, Greater the performance" is not true. It may show some result accordingly, but thats not what exatly happens. The performence is mainly depending on the frequancy and data tranfer rate. More the frequancy, faster data transfer, faster will the processed data be displayed.

Tech TalkWithout sufficient capacity of RAM you can not access all operation speedily and without support of external mamory card you can not install more apps or apps contain with higher mamory requirement.
