Just One 'ACCEPT AS SOLUTION'...

I find it strange that many posts have multiple solutions, when in fact there is only one solution for the problem mentioned in the OP.

Those of you who are doing that, please avoid doing so.

While i understand that you are being appreciative of all the help and suggestions you have received, and want to express your gratitude to everyone who has tried to help you, (even if a suggestion made has nothing to do with solving the problem mentioned), please also understand the implications of marking an answer as a solution.

PURPOSE OF 'ACCEPT AS SOLUTION' FEATURE

You'll see that this feature exists in all forums, although a different terminology may be used. The purpose of this feature is to help anyone reading it to quickly see what the correct solution to the problem is.

Often, in the comments section, a lot of discussion takes place, which may or may not be directly (or even indirectly) relevant to the problem in OP. When you mark just one answer as a solution, someone with the same/ similar problem can quickly solve his/ her own problem by looking at just the correct answer, without having to read through several comments or other suggestions that don't actually solve the problem in question.

There is usually just one solution to a problem. Not multiple solutions. So when you accept an answer as a solution to the problem in OP, mark just the one that actually worked for you.

For expressing gratitude to all members who tried to help you, you have the 'Like' button. You can also express your gratitude with a simple 'Thank you' in the comments section.

In the very rare instance where multiple comments solve the problem in the OP, choose the BEST ANSWER. Best answer is one that is well structured, written in a very easy to understand manner, supported by examples, illustrations, etc.

EXCEPTIONS

There can be a few exceptions, but these are not really a solution to a problem. These are more likely a confirmation sought from the community.

For example, you could see a strange message on your device and not sure what that means. You could ask the community what the message means and if it is a problem to be concerned with. In that case, multiple people may come forward with the same answer. In which case, they can all be marked as the solution, since they are identical answers.

POINT TO NOTE:Mark multiple answers as solution ONLY if the answers are identical. Otherwise, it defeats the purpose of this feature.

SUGGESTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY ADMIN

1. In addition to 'Accept as Solution', you could consider adding another feature: HELPFUL ANSWERS. These are comments that could be helpful for other reasons, and adds value to OP.

2.Allow the OP to mark his own comment as a solution. I have had instances where I figured out the solution myself, but couldn't mark the same as answer. But because I wanted to mark it as solved, I chose one of the answers for this purpose, even if it didn't actually solve the problem. I didn't have a choice there. In such cases, I edited the OP to include the solution. Not the best way to do, but there isn't a better alternative presently.

3. If possible, allow the OP to mark just one answer as a solution. Ideally, the correct answer that gets posted first should be chosen for this purpose. This is not any competition, but just that people commenting the same thing later are not adding any value.

While there could be a reason for someone commenting the same thing already posted by someone else (like the person may not have read through the comments, which is perfectly fine), it is fair to expect the OP to mark the answer he received first as the solution.

Thank you.

This is an example of mockery of this feature:

If you are wondering if i cropped out the answer, then NO. The smiley was indeed chosen as an answer. 😇 😇 😇

Another example:

Not an answer either.

If the people whose posts I'm using here are reading this, please don't take this personally. The reason it is posted is simply to tell everyone to use this feature the way it is supposed to be used. No offense.Screenshot_20220406-160050_Samsung Members.jpgScreenshot_20220406-160050_Samsung Members~2.jpg
