Tech TalkHow to view your Digital wellbeing and set timers:
Think of the Digital wellbeing feature as a budget, but for digital habits instead of spending habits.
Open Settings, and then tap Digital wellbeing and parental controls. Here you can view your overall usage, exactly how much time you spent on your apps every day, the number of notifications you received, and the number of times you’ve unlocked your phone.
You can even set a timer for each app to help you keep track of how long you’re using them. From the Digital wellbeing and parental controls Home screen, tap App timers. Tap the drop-down arrow next to your desired app, and then select your desired amount of time. Or, tap Custom to set your own.
How to use Wind down mode
Looking at a screen before going to bed can actually affect how well you sleep. To prevent this, turn on Wind down to change the screen to grayscale. This will help remind your brain that it’s almost time for bed.
From Settings, tap Digital wellbeing and parental controls, and then tap Wind Down. Tap Set a schedule, and then tap the switch to turn it on. Choose your desired day and time for using Wind Down.
How to use Focus mode
When you need to concentrate on studying or just want some alone time, you can use Focus mode.
From Settings, tap Digital wellbeing and parental controls. Tap the options for Work time, Me time, or Addunder Focus mode.
Work time: Set up this mode to block apps that you don’t want to receive alerts from. Tap Start, and then tap Add to fill the list with your desired apps. Once your apps have been selected, tap Done, and then tap Start to begin. Tap End focus mode when finished.
How to set up Parental Controls
You can restrict your child’s app usage by setting up parental controls with Google’s Family Link.
From Settings, tap Digital wellbeing and parental controls. Tap Parental controls, and then tap Get started. Select Child or Teen, or Parent, depending on the device’s user. In this case, tap Parent. Next, tap Get Family Link and install Google Family Link for parents. Tap Open, review the information, and then tap Get started. Tap Parent, and then tap Next to link to your child’s device. Tap I’m Ready, and then tap Yes to select your child’s account. Tap Next to set up your child’s device.
