When Samsung released One Ui 4 beta I suggested them to add selected app settings for "SHOW FOR NEW NOTIFICATIONS" on AOD 

They didn't even added it on One UI 5....we don't want to pop up our display for unnecessary app notification....just want to see notification for selected apps(like WhatsApp, Fb, Messages)

in my s22 plus everything works fine. i never use always on display because it causes more battery drain.

I use tap to show. This way I can check the time and if there's any new notification with almost no additional battery drain.
