On 08 May, this year, Google brought an early preview of new Android extension libraries - AndroidX which represents a new era of android libraries.
AndroidX is an open-source project that developers will be using to develop, test, package, and releasing the apps within Jetpack. It is a major improvement for it provides backward-compatibility across framework APIs of previous Android versions which is important as almost every android application is using Support Library today and they would need a solid foundation.
This is a huge and time-consuming shift for existing projects and codebases but it brings sustainable growth, smaller code size, faster development, and better modularity with which application developers can reduce their time-to-market significantly.
As end users this means a lot for us as well for now we won't have to wait for months to see a new and exciting feature in our favorite apps, they can be there a lot sooner.
