Few days ago got the Samsung 980 PRO SSD 500GB . What Samsung claims its Sequential Read and Write Speeds to be about somewhere near to 7000mb/s and 5000mb/s. And i am getting only 3460mb/s and 3328mb/s(May vary a bit ) . And its current firmware version 3B2QGXA7 which have so many complaints about SSD failure, is not getting updated to new version available which is 5B2QGXA7. Contacted Samsung customer supported , they kept on transferring my calls to another departments for the last three days and at last when my call got connected, they told me to send my ssd details and everything else along with my address to their Samsung ssd support via mail B2B.care@samsung.com, did the same. Now they are telling me to go to their service center which is located in Chandigarh only, which is approximately a 6- 7 hours distance from my home. Now what **bleep** is this 🤬🤬.

980 Pro is a PCI Express Gen 4 SSD and the advertized speeds are given accordingly.... so I have a few questions. We'll talk about the update later.

1. Does your laptop support PCI Express Gen 4? If yes, is it enabled in the BIOS?

2. If your laptop has multiple SSD slots, are you sure you are connected to the Gen 4 one?

3. Does your laptop overheat?

11400H has a Gen 4 CPU PCIe revision, but the chipset PCIe revision is Gen 3. What that means is that the PCIe lanes connecting directly to the CPU are all Gen 4 while lanes connecting through the chipset are all Gen 3. It seems like your laptop's SSD lane is a chipset lane and not a direct CPU lane, that is why you're getting slower speeds.

But in other slot, which is preinstalled with also gen 4 samsung ssd ,i am getting 6900mb/s and 5000mb/s Sequential Read and Write speeds. And as far as i know , my second slot in which i have recently added the samsung 980 pro , is also a pci gen 4 not gen 3 .

Well then that one surely is a Gen 4 slot with gen 4 lanes, so if you put the new SSD in that, you would get similar speeds to the preinstalled one. I highly doubt that both the slots will be Gen 4, especially with an i5. Check in your BIOS, you might be able to get some info.

Now, i have got a new problem 😒. Actually my registry editor got corrupted . And now i can't even install new windows. And apps installed on system drive are not working except those on other drive. Tried installing the windows through bootable usb drive, but intel's 11th, 12th and 13th gen processors requires intel rapid storage drivers to install windows, through usb bootable device 😓 😓, which i didn't install earlier. Now i can't even install anything in my laptop.
