There was a time when I was using GPS devices for navigation all the time. Over time, I found that I lost sense of routes, and became overly reliant on GPS. So if the GPS device stops working or runs out of battery, I would be stuck on road. So I made a conscious decision to limit my use of GPS, and it helped regain my sense of route/ direction.

I follow a similar principle when using the keyboard on phones. I don't use gesture/ swipe based typing simply because one would lose command over vocabulary and spelling if overly reliant on auto-complete/ autocorrect feature.

The reason I am giving these examples is to draw your attention to something much more important, and much more critical as it relates directly to your health and quality of life.

No matter how advanced health apps get and how advanced technology becomes, it will still be no match forhow you feel from within. The body ALWAYS gives sufficient signals if there is a problem. One must learn to read these and interpret it correctly. There will always be technological limitations, and gimmicky apps and gadgets will not always read/ detect problems. On the contrary, they have the potential to make things worse for you.

It is okay (but still not advisable) to use such apps and gadgets (e.g. smartwatches) in a very limited way, such as a tool to encourage sticking to a plan or beating previous workouts, etc. But one must NEVER rely on these numbers. Unfortunately, this will eventually happen as you use more and more of it. Even though these apps make it very clear not to rely on them, your continued use over time would make you reliant on them, to the point that you'll fail to read what your own body is trying to tell you.

No healthy person would pass away suddenly. Sudden death occurs only under 1 circumstance: Accident!

The body ALWAYS gives out plenty of signals. People must learn to pay attention to their own body, learn to interpret the signals properly, and do the needful. It is failure to do that which often leads to 'sudden death' which family members find difficult to accept.

It also shows the limitations of the medical equipments in use. They can't read everything the body is signalling. It is ultimately for the individual to properly interpret body signals and action on them.

Around the time that Apple releases a smart watch, I see multiple articles in the news on how an Apple watch saved someone's life by detecting some problem. Please don't fall for these marketing tactics that Big Tech deploys.

LESSON

STOP relying on/ getting motivated with Gimmicks. Try and PAY ATTENTION to how you feel from within, how your body responds, what works for you and what doesn't, etc. Actively look for signals your body is giving and learn to interpret them.

Over time, you'll have a much better understanding and control over your own body. Let no gadget tell you your true health status. Because they can't.
