Why WhatsApp take so much storage

It takes 5.85 gb in my phone. Its to much and phone is now 83 percent space. What is wrong.

WhatsApp takes 100mb something and dual take 5gb. what to do?

check storage in settings and delete those files videos pictures wich you didn't want toh have with you
or go to whatsapp settings then storage and data then you will see all photos videos which are downloaded from WhatsApp
or try also clear cache
