Yes, that is because of the Indian government's rules and regulations. It is also mentioned in the terms and conditions tht you have to pay a gift tax. Regardless, we will confim as soon as possible :)

Ya Take your time....but I think gift tax is applicable if the price of gift is more than 50000 INR isn't it ? or correct me if I am wrong :)

The thing with gift tax is that the govt keeps a record of all gifts you have received in a financial year (the ones that are registered), and if the amount goes above 50k in that year, the entire amount will be taxed, otherwise when you file and ITR, the entire amount for any gift tax you paid will be refunded. So, in your case, if you have not received gifts which sum up to 50k, the 3599 you're gonna pay here will be refunded at the end of the financial year.

Now that I've sorted the tax problem, the only thing left is the genuinity of the email. Will confirm by tonight as the managers seem busy and I have not received a response yet.
